Meet Uno! Uno is an approximately 2 year old neutered male that Bella-Reed Pit Bull Rescue? pulled from Burlington County Shelter in NJ after seeing urgent pleas for him all over Facebook. You see, Uno was not thriving in shelter life, but really, what dog does? Uno had been self-harming himself and losing weight at the shelter because he was so anxious. He would cut himself on his stainless steel food bowl (see photos in the beginning of his photo album) after chewing on it and he also cut up his paws/ankles. This is most likely the Uno picture you all saw. But this is not the REAL Uno. After removing him from the shelter, he is the sweetest, most friendly dog a person could ever love! He loves to snuggle and he is very food motivated, which is great for training. He does sometimes react to dogs he does not know that react to him at first, but after slow introductions, he becomes their best friend. He is currently living in foster care with 2 other female dogs and they are best friends! A NOTE FROM UNO'S FOSTER MOM, 2/2/xxxx: "Uno has been our foster for a few months now. We have got to know him well in the small amount of time that we've had him. When he first came to us he was covered with wounds, weighed 40 pounds, and was somewhat shutdown with dog reactiveness and small prey drive. The beginning of Uno's new life began after I saw a Facebook photograph of Uno, with blood and cuts covering him as he peered out soulfully from behind a chain link gate. Along with his picture was a plea for help from BRPBR. It stated that Uno's original foster had to back out at the last minute and they had no place for him to go. I had transported for rescues but never fostered an animal but being a dog mom of 2 beautiful pittes, my heart was breaking. I sent a message to the rescue offering to transport and help in any way possible. This began my life as a foster mom. Uno came to us weighing in at a mere 40 pounds. His ribs were showing and he was cut up from self harming himself due to kennel stress. Bella-Reed made an immediate appointment for Uno to see a veterinarian. The vet visit revealed that Uno had an old break to his left carpal which had healed in such a way that to repair it would not improve his quality of life. He was also anemic and underweight. The vet put Uno on antibiotics for his cuts and pain medicine for his carpal. The pain medicine helps Uno but he tires easily and his limp becomes more pronounced after activities. He doesn't let it keep him down though. He recovers pretty fast. Bella-Reed requires a 2 week shutdown period for their fosters to adjust to a new home and with Uno joining my family of two other dogs, I wasn't to concerned about his label of dog reactive with my girls. I have a dominant 40 pound pocket pit and a submissive 70 lb Amstaff. They were introduced slowly and now are best of friends. Uno does react to animals that are at the vet or walking by but I feel that he wants to play with them. Uno will react to a dog that acts aggressive toward him but with my 2 girls he does not. Uno doesn't like to be crated for an extended amount of time. He requires calming treats, toys, and Kongs to keep him occupied while crated. We have opted to crate just our girls and let him have limited free range of the house. He is house broken and as long as he has his Kong's and something to chew on he is content. Uno is a love hog who loves to snuggle and be right by my side. He is very loyal and only barks when he hears or sees something different. I would not trust him with small animals, as he has prey drive. When Uno focuses on something, he puts his whole being into it. He doesn't miss a thing, he is very inquisitive. He has been around small school aged children and is gentle and loving with them. He does think at times that he weighs 10 pounds with adults but is working on and doing well at being easy.
